Junior stars sample Supercars
Brad Jones Racing held their end of year evaluation day at Winton Motor Raceway today, with some of the rising stars of Australian motorsport getting to sample the teams' Super2 Commodores.

2018 F4 Champion Jayden Ojeda, 2018 NSW and Victorian Formula Ford Champion Nathan Herne, karting star Joshua Fife and Toyota 86 driver Broc Feeney all took to the wheel; the power of the Supercars leaving them with a thrilling first impression and smiles that will continue throughout the week.

Jayden Ojeda steered the #21 Super2 Commodore, which has been a bonus prize for the F4 champions in recent years. Jayden was recognised as the CAMS #1 Junior Driver in Australia in 2014 and was a member of the CAMS elite driver program from 2014 to 2016 inclusive, whilst working his way through the karting, Formula Ford and F4 categories.

Jayden Ojeda: "Pretty unreal to put the foot down in the Supercar today, it's got a lot more power than what I'm used to. The perspective of looking out, having a roof, all of that is a new experience for me."

"I worked with Wally Storey and he has been really good, giving me great advice. He knows his stuff and you can see why he's ben around so long, he's a great bloke."

"You need to adjust the driving style of these cars, in the open wheeler its all about keeping up momentum, where as this more stop and go, you drop it into a corner, turn and go. The highlight is the power."

The dual-state Formula Ford champion Nathan Herne was also learning the differences between open-wheelers and sedans today, completing over 50 laps at Winton Raceway behind Zane Goddard's #8 Super2 Commodore.

Nathan Herne: "The team are like a community, it was relaxing and very welcoming, I felt very comfortable doing my first laps in a Supercar. To muscle a Supercar around Winton is awesome, it's a difficult track and makes you work as a driver. It's amazing to drive a car with this amount of grip."

"I worked with one of Nick Percat's engineers, Danny Sims and I've learned a lot today. He's been great with helping me go through the data, overlapping my information and giving me advice on areas to improve."

Josh Fife had a taste of the team's Super3 Commodore when he completed a few laps at the team's test day at Winton in October. Today he's returned for the next step up, behind the wheel of Macauley Jones' #14 Super2 car.

Josh Fife: "I did about 60 laps in the Super3 car here back in October and was great to be able to come back again with the team and jump in a Super2 car. The overall grip difference between cars is huge, through the high-speed stuff the Super3 Commodore is quite bouncy, where-as the Super2 car handles the bumps a lot better."

"Tom Wettenhall (Slade's engineer) helped me a lot today. It was the best experience, everyone in the crew have been really welcoming and helpful. It's such an amazing opportunity and I can't thank everyone at BJR enough; they're helping all of us out, making sure we get the most out of these days and taking away a few lessons for the future."

Toyota 86 driver Broc Feeney completed laps in both #21 and #8 today. Both Broc and Nathan will be competing in the finals of the Aussie Driver Search next week at Wakefield Park.

Broc Feeney: "It's been unbelievable to drive at Supercar at Winton, it's a technical and hard track; nothing like what I'm used to. Awesome experience. Massive thanks to BJR and the crew for an amazing day. It's been invaluable to go through all the data and getting to learn so much about driving Supercars."

"The biggest lesson is the braking, it's so different to karting and the Toyota 86 series. Andrew Jones was on hand and helped a lot with this; when to release the brakes, how much pressure to apply; it's a very physical car to drive. It's something that would take getting used to but it's my goal to race in the Supercar series."
