Red Bull Holden Racing Team finish in style with double victory in Newcastle
The Red Bull Holden Racing Team has finished the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship on a high with another dominant performance to make it two-from-two wins in the final round of the year at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500.

The #88 Commodore of Jamie Whincup picked up yet another win in his illustrious career, his 118th to be exact, in what was a perfect weekend for the Holden factory squad with Shane van Gisbergen taking the honours in Saturday's 250km feature.

"I'm just really proud of everyone, we fought hard right to the end. We didn't have as much performance at the start of the year but we chipped away and two wins for the team this weekend gives us confidence heading into next year that we can certainly be contenders," said Whincup.

"Hopefully we can take it to car #17 next year but congratulations to Scotty this year he did a great job."

The 2019 season saw the Red Bull Holden Racing Team finish second in the Supercars Teams' Championship and second and third in the Drivers' Championship with van Gisbergen and Whincup respectively.

Holden Motorsport would like to congratulate Scott McLaughlin and the DJR Team Penske squad on their performance in 2019, we look forward re-igniting the battle on the racetrack in 2020!

Red Bull Holden Racing teammate van Gisbergen cleaned up on Saturday in the sister Commodore with a win and a pole position in the penultimate race of the year.

Van Gisbergen was solid throughout the race on Saturday with a clinical performance to win in Newcastle which was the sixth-straight race win for the Commodore in the back end of the 2019 season.

Sunday was a solid day for the Freightliner Racing Commodore driver Tim Slade who finished his year off in style with a podium result and his best of the season in the final race of the year.

"That was amazing, the guys have been doing an awesome job with the car all weekend and it's nice to reward them with this," Slade said.

"So a big congrats to the team, it was an awesome way to finish the year."

Sunday saw a plethora of Commodores finish inside the Top-10 with Scott Pye adding to his amazing weekend with a fifth on Sunday.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver enjoyed a strong day in the office on Saturday too, bringing his chariot home in sixth - an astronomical effort after the #2 driver was hospitalised on Friday with a bug and also started Saturday's race from the back of the grid, making up 18 spots to his finishing result.

Sunday saw van Gisberegn finish seventh from 20th on the grid with the Commodores of Nick Percat and Todd Hazelwood also finishing their year off strong with a ninth and tenth result respectively.

With the Newcastle 500 spelling the end of the 2019 season teams will have minimal time to rest as the 2020 Supercars season kicks back into gear on Feb 20-23 at the Superloop Adelaide 500.
