Top 10 Shootout
Rain was threatening, and Courtney had reported rain earlier in the session, but it was dry when Coulthard, the first of the Shell V-Power Racing team drivers to take to the track in the shootout, went out for his lap.

He put together a smooth and flowing lap. A couple of small slides caused by some oversteer hampered his time. Coulthard and D'Alberto will start from P8.

It was still dry when McLaughlin headed out for his lap. Having never missed a shootout since 2013, he gave it everything and put together a very clean lap, but it wasn't enough for pole position. He missed out by just 0.4429s. McLaughlin and Slade will start on the front row in P2.

Earlier today, there were two Practice sessions:
Practice 6
The opening session of day three was dedicated to co-drivers only, and the Shell V-Power Racing Team used the opening laps to do race pace simulations. And their pace with good, clocking time that put them inside the top 5.

Twenty minutes into the session, the No. 12 Mustang suffered a transaxle failure as D'Alberto tried downshifting into second gear. The car was towed back to the garage where the crew were able to replace it in under 30 minutes and get D'Alberto back out for one more stint before the flag. Slade finished Practice 6 in P14 while D'Alberto was P16.

Practice 7
The final Practice of the day was another all-driver session, and it was D'Alberto and Slade who were first behind the wheel. Slade did just one lap before coming into pit lane for the crew to simulate a pit stop, including a driver change. D'Alberto did the same just one lap later.

McLaughlin and Coulthard spent the session working on race simulations as well as set up changes in preparation for the afternoon's shootout. McLaughlin reported that the changes brought the setup in the right direction. However, Coulthard felt that the changes took car No. 12's setup in the wrong direction. McLaughlin and Coulthard finished the session in P5 and P6 respectively.

Fabian Coulthard:
"It was obviously very different conditions to what we had in qually. We gave it our best shot, but not quite good enough. It's a very different 'race' car around here, and it's been predictable in the race simulations I've done, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Tony D'Alberto:
"Obviously my session today was a little bit short-lived due to the transaxle problem, which was a bit of a shame. But I'm happy we had the problem today rather than tomorrow. The car feels really good, and I'm happy with the balance of the car."

"We tried race spec, and I was running high fuel and older tyres. I was happy with that balance, so now we're just ticking down the days, and it's all looking positive for tomorrow."

Scott McLaughlin:
"We made a pretty big change in the car, and it gave us direction. I just enjoyed that, and it was a lot of fun. It's a privilege to have time out here by yourself. That was me, but we'll get after that car No. 6 tomorrow."

Tim Slade:
"The aim of today's session was to do some longer runs, and I think the car felt pretty decent considering the tyre quality and everything else. I manage to be consistent and comfortable in the car I ticked all those boxes. Scotty went on to do some setup work in the next session."

I think Scotty did an awesome job in the shootout and did the best he could with what he had. I think to be P2 starting the race is a good place to be, and I think it will suit our strategy."
