ONE MORE TIME AROUND
The 2009 season is about to be wrapped up with this weekend’s racing at Homebush to finish the season off. The potential jewel in the crown of the championship, the Sydney Telstra 500 around Homebush, needs to be a success for the championship to get the long wanted foot hole in the Sydney market. Much has been invested in this ‘event’, VESA need this to be a success. Don’t expect to hear a bad word about the weekend from anyone directly involved in the category this weekend. The category has long wanted to feature around Sydney. This, combined with a desire to finish the championship with a round as great as Adelaide’s Clipsal 500, the Homebush race builds towards a potential feature round of the championship. But the failure of V8’s to get a foot hole in the Sydney market to date is a clear problem for the championship.
Meanwhile, the 2010 silly season appears to be drawing to an early conclusion. Jason Bright’s location in 2010 is currently seemingly the intriguing question, though strong rumours continue to blow in about his 2010 location. The fourth Kelly Racing drive and the second Bright licence may well be the only seats currently open.
With 2010 getting underway in February, teams have to be organised. There will be just 10 weekends between Homebush and Yas Marina. Teams have little time to upgrade cars or build new cars. For Paul Morris Motorsport, they have already indicated they will only have time to have 1 Triple 8 developed car ready for the Middle East rounds, with Greg Murphy expected to start the season in Russell Ingall’s 2009 car, with Castrol backing.
As always, make sure you stay tuned to the V8 Daily Dump as teams make their final announces on their driver line-ups, new sponsors, new liveries and no doubt the early endurance driver signings.
